Glossy Box November 2011

This month Glossy Box launched here in Australia. There was a bit of confusion around this because Beauty Box became Glossy Box, or Beauty Box was just here until Glossy Box launched or something like that. Anyway Glossy Box basically took over from Beauty Box.

If you read my blog you will know that I wasn’t the biggest fan of Beauty Box, so I was a bit skeptical about Glossy Box and very interested to see what their 1st box would be like. And I’m pleased to say the really kicked Beauty Box’s ass…lets just say box!

Not only did the box look lovely, but I was also impressed with the products inside.

Jurlique’s Purely Age-Defying Ultra Firm & Life Cream

Bio Oil’s, well Bio Oil

Essie’s Summer Nail Colour (I got Braziliant)

Bobbi Brown’s Cleansing Oil

Mirenesse’s 3D Forever Gloss (I got Hot Kiss)

JELLYBEANS! This really was the highlight! I LOVE Jellybeans!

I would have to say as far as 1st boxes go this one was pretty damn good. Very happy indeed and much better then Beauty Box was.

Nails – Neo French Manicure

So I got all inspired this week to try something new with my nails. I decided to try a two tone color French Manicure.

The two colors I used: Base – Sand Tropez, Tips – Coat Azure.

Personally I like it! But then again it’s on my nails and I did think of it so I’m quite partial to liking it. What do you think? Like?

Trend Alert: Skittle Nails

So if you read my blog yesterday about my outfit on Sunday, you would have seen that I mentioned Skittle Nails.

I first head about this concept at the International Beauty and Spa Expo when I was talking to some lovely make-up and nail artists. Basically the idea is that your nails don't match. So you can have each nail a different color or a few different colors on each hand.

The main point of it is to have your nails clashing. What Mandy (who I spoke to specifically about Skittle Nails) said is that it's all about mixing different types of colors and textures. For example having brights with pastels or mixing matte and glitter finishes. So think glittery black with a matte hot pink or pastel purple with a deep green.

Here is a re-cap of my attempt at skittle nails!

I've still got my Minx Gold color on my pinkie (my bf calls it my "grill" lol) and I'm also wearing Essie's Sand Tropez and OPI's Bastille My Heart.

Mandy did say that the best nail polish brands are Illamasqua and OPI, although her favorite is Illamasqua because they do amazing textures.

So what do you think?

Are you a fan of the skittle nails?

Essie Spring 2011 Collection Part 2

I have finally finished trying out the entire French Affair Collection (finally)! In case you forgot, I have already reviewed half of the collection, Sand Tropez, French Affair and Coat Azure.

And here is my review of the second half.

Week 4: Nice is Nice

I really LOVE this color. It’s such a perfect light pretty shade. Essie describes this color as a lovely whimsical light lavender, and that’s exactly what it is.
So my rating for ‘Nice is nice’ is DELIGHTFUL…or 9.5/10.

Week 5: Topless & Barefoot

This color is really similar to ‘Sand Tropez’ only lighter (hence the implied naked-ness in the name). This is a really lovely nude color that is great when you want that ‘not really wearing nail polish’ look.
So the verdict is PERFECT NUDE! (I know that is 2 words but I thought it was necessary) Or 8.5/10
Week 6: Kisses & Bises

I wasn’t too sure when I first saw this color, it looked like it would be a bit of a nothing color. But it ended up surprising me.
This is a really nice ‘nothing’ color. It’s on the verge of being clear, but there is a bit of an off-white hue and a light pink/purple shimmer.
My rating for Kisses & Bises is SURPRISING or 7/10!

What do you think of the Essie French Affair collection?

Have you tried any of the colors?

Essie Spring 2011 Collection Part 1

About a month ago I bought Essie’s 2011 Spring Collection called ‘French Affair’.

The colors from left to right are: French Affair (lavender pink), Topless & Barefoot (soft beige pink), Coat Azure (medium blue with shimmer), Nice Is Nice (light lavender), Sand Tropez (soft sandy beige) and Kisses & Bises (pink shimmer).

Each week I’m testing out a different color in the collection. So far I have tests out 3 of the colors and here is what I thought of them!

Week 1: Sand Tropez

I LOVE this color! It’s such a great neutral/beige color that is perfect for summer, spring, winter…well pretty much all year round.

Don’t my nails look pretty??
My rating for Sand Tropez is LOVE….or 9/10.

Week 2: French Affair

Now I had a problem with French Affair, I wouldn’t really call it lavender pink. It’s a very nice pink, but lavender pink?

Nonetheless I still like the result.
My rating for French Affair is PRETTY…or 8/10.

Week 3: Coat Azure

This color was a bit of a wild card. Most of the colors in the collection were very soft and pretty, and Coat Azure is a little but ‘in your face’.

What do you think?? I really like the bold blue. I also like that it doesn’t have as much shimmer as it looks like it does in the bottle. The color also makes me happy because it reminds me of the Mediterranean Sea.
My rating for Coat Azure is HAPPY…or 8/10.

I have more in depth reviews on my tumblr page.

Enjoy!
