It’s Autumn but it feels like Spring…

Hot off the press, Chanel's new Spring 2012 make-up collection. Check these out!

Doesn't it look amazing! It's due to launch in May overseas. Lets hope we don't have to wait too long over here.

A little bit of luxury

I think most women out there love the idea of owning some designer goods. The generally problem is the little price tag that comes along with it.

However, cosmetics and fragrances are a great way to treat yourself to a little bit of luxury without breaking the bank balance.

Fragrances are my personal preferences for designer brands.

At the moment I have Chance by Chanel, L'Essence by Balenciaga, Daisy by Marc Jocobs, Paris by YSL, Princess by Vera Wang, Flora by Gucci and Infusion D'Iris by Prada

I also find lipsticks are a great choice as well.

Shoes: What I'm Wearing Today

So one of my life mantras is ‘life is too short to wear sensible shoes’ (hence the name of my blog). However I have kind of taken this to the next level, by pretty much buying as many pairs of shoes as I possibly can. I really do love shoes!
I have featured the odd shoe every now and then in my blogs, but I think I have been under-representing shoes considering my passion for them.
As such I tried to correct this last week (see some posts HERE and HERE and HERE), and I think it’s going to become a regular update (but we shall see).
So here are the fabulous shoes I’m wearing today! YAY!

Aren’t they amazing! My outfit today is really all about the shoe. I’m wearing skinny oil-slick black jeans (they are called second skins actually lol), a black tee (shocking I know!) and an army green military style cardigan. So not the most vibrant outfit, UNTIL to see the shoes that is!
I should also add that these lovely little wedges add about 6 inches to my high, so they really do make a statement.
I also thought my awesome Chanel Black Pearl nail polish, which I’m wearing also deserved a mention.

What do you think of my shoes?
Do you agree that life is too short to wear sensible shoes?

Sarah Jessica Parker in Vogue

So this weekend I have been pretty boring. My time has been spent doing uni assignment and watching Sex And The City (both the TV show and the movies). Although I’ve done the quiz “which sex and the city character are you” and it said that I was Charlotte, there has always been something about Carrie I love. Not so much her masochistic relationship with Mr. Big, but her amazing wardrobe! Man the lady knows how to dress and how to pick an amazing pair of shoes. It’s really all about the shoes and I guess in that respect Carrie and I must be on the same wavelength.

So when I was looking at Vogue dot com (always wanted to type a website out like that!) last night I saw that the lovely Sarah Jessica Parker was there August Cover Girl (and if you don’t know the connection between SJP and Sex And The City you should be shot).

Sarah Jessica Parter in Chanel and Manolo's

SJP in Marc Jacobs

SJP in Oscar de la Renta
After reading the article and checking out a number of pictures of the lovely Ms. Parker, I realized how much of a fashion icon SJP really is. I have always thought of Carrie being the fashion icon, but I think SJP may be even more so then her on-screen character.

SJP in Alexander McQueen
SJP in Chanel Haute Couture
SJP in Oscar de la Renta
SJP in Halston Heritage
SJP in L'Wren Scott
SJP in Valentino
How amazing are these dresses??

The women know how to wear couture! And credit to her for being the former partner of Halston Heritage, which resulted in some amazing couture items (which you can see in SATC2).

Do you love Sarah Jessica Parker too?

Are you a Sex And The City Fan?

Get The Look: Jean Paul Gaultier’s Haute Couture collection make-up look

My 3rd and final make-up look is Jean Paul Gaultier’s Haute Couture collection look.

Nothing about this look is subtle. The black eyeliner and the striking red lips aren’t for the light-hearted, especially when worn together. Normally this might be a bit much, but the eye make-up is purely winged eyeliner at the top and outlined at the bottom with mascara, so the look isn’t too over powering. My eyeliner recommendations for this winged liner look are:

Bobbi Brow's Gel Liner

Shu Uemura's Gel Liner

Now on to the red lips! I really do love a red lip and there are quite a few good options for getting this look. I have included my favorite lipsticks and lipglosses to create this look and they are:

MAC's Ruby Woo

MAC's Russian Red

Lipstick Queen's Big Bang in Energy. This is really a gloss but it's such a great colour and lasts for ages. So if you don't want to wear a lipstick it's a great option.

In my Chanel post I covered off mascara, so if you want to know my mascara picks, pop over there.

Well I hope you like my Haute Couture make-up run-downs! If you didn’t see Chanel or Valentino’s check them out J.

What do you think of Jean Paul Gaulter’s runway make-up look?
Do you like the winged liner and red lip look?

Get The Look: Chanel's Haute Couture collection make-up look

So last week I did a series of posts on the Paris Fall 2011 Haute Couture Collections. If you haven’t had a look yet, check out my posts for Chanel, Valentino, Jean Paul Gaultier, Christian Dior and Givenchy, or check out my summed up version.

As such I have decided to do a post on the make-up styles that were on display during Haute Couture collections. It’s a sort of how-to, but not. And for those of you who don’t understand my vagueness, what I mean is I will show the looks, talk about what is going on and make product recommendations on how to create the look yourself! (So a kind of how-to but not really)

Also for these looks I’m only looking at the eyes, cheeks and lips. If I went into foundation etc we could be here all night.  Also I have just finished typing out the full blog and it’s a bit long! So I’m going to break this up into 3 blogs for each look that I’m focusing on.

Let’s start with my 1st look, Chanel!

So the Chanel look was all about the eyes! The black lace was a really interesting look (that I personally loved, but then it is Chanel so they could pretty much be wearing clown masks and I would love it lol), but I also liked that they did add a smoky eye underneath. It really made the eyes pop and really draw you in. What I also loved, once I noticed, is that it’s not a traditional smoky eye; they have used navy blue, I’m assuming to match the nail colors. It really ties the whole look in nicely together.

Now to get the look you could always just walk into the Chanel store and ask for all the colors they used in the runway show, buy them and call it a day. Or if you don’t have that much money, you could try using the following items! YAY!

I love a good make-up palette and there are some really good smoky eye ones other there. I recommend:

Benefit's Smokin' Eyes

Too Faced Smoky Eyes
The Benefit palette is the more traditional smoky eye look (plus it has a mini brow kit, LOVE), but the Too Faced palette does have a really nice navy blue so you can re-create the Chanel look.

Also you can’t forget mascara! Pretty much all the looks require mascara, so I’m only going to feature them once. And the two I recommend are:

MAC's Opulash

Benefit's They're Real!
Now Benefit’s They’re Real hasn’t launched here yet, but if you HAVE TO HAVE IT NOW you can buy it from the benefit website and they ship to Australia! YAY!

Finally the eyeliner! Let’s face it no smoky eye look is complete without the eyeliner and these are my recommendations:

NARS's Eye Kohl

MAC's Eye Kohl

What do you think of Chanel’s smoky eye look?

Are you going to try the smoky eye look with navy blue?

Paris 2011 Haute Couture Collection - My 5 picks

Over the past week I have majorly been stalking Fashion websites checking out all the pictures of the Fall 2011 Haute Couture collections that have come out of Paris and I have to say I LOVE them! There really is no comparison to Haute Couture and these designers have really out-done themselves with some really great collections. On my other blog over at Tumblr, I have done 5 posts on my 5 favourite shows. I thought I would give this blog some love and do a re-cap of my 5 picks. I have also linked the titles to my full blog posts over at Tumblr, so if you fancy checking out my full post you can pop over there.
The Chanel Fall 2011 Haute Couture collection was amazing! Fabulous designer Karl Lagerfeld didn’t fail to deliver some gorgeous takes on the classic Chanel suit. The textures and lines are fabulous.

Here are a few of my picks.

Now I’m sure you are all familiar with what has happened at Dior recently with John Galliano’s not so gracious exit. As such Galliano’s pattern-cutter Bill Gaytten was given the task of putting together a Haute Couture show (easy right! lol).
And I really liked the collection! It’s like quirky, bight and chic. It was just fun, from the pieces to the colors.
Some reviews I’ve read say that despite the fact that the show was really lovely, it was missing something. You could tell that Galliano wasn’t there and that there was not overall vision. I agree with this to an extent, but given what has happened at Dior HQ, I think they did a pretty damn good job.
Here are a few of my picks.

The Valentino collection, designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, was something really special. Their collection was nothing less than beautiful. The couture has a really old grace and femininity that just looks spectacular. Some of the couture really reminds me of the Renaissance with a modern twist.

Piccioli said that the collection has “the grace of a woman we’ve been looking for. That’s not a word that’s used very much today, but we think it’s more subversive now to dress like this, with a sense of regality and luxury that has nothing to do with ostentation”. Well said Pier!
Here are a few of my picks.

Jean Paul Gaultier’s collection really explores a dark side to fashion with intense feature, fur and leather. I really love the edgy-ness to this collection. It’s a really nice contrast to what we saw with Valentino’s insanely feminine collection.
This collection, designed by Riccardo Tisci, is really lovely and soft. Tisci said that he “tried to find the light in the darkness, very pure and soft and fragile; a romantic dream”. This collection is kind of the mirror image of Jean Paul Gaultier’s collection. I thought the collection was really beautiful with lots of soft lines and color; it was also very feminine and elegant. I was also blow away by the exquisite detail that was maintained through the collection; it really just topped it off.
Here are a few of my picks.

How amazing are these collections! I really love fashion week!
I’m going to do an exclusive beauty blog on these collections as well (thought if I did a fashion snapshot and beauty in the one blog it would be over kill).
What do you think?
Are you in love with any of these designers? Any stand out for you?
