Outfit Today: What to wear to dinner??

So I know it says Outfit Today, but it’s really Outfit Last Night (I know I lied, I’m sorry). I had to go out to dinner last night to a surprise 30th Birthday. Now I never know what to wear to these kinds of things. Dinner is such a hard occasion to dress for. We were going somewhere in Sutherland, so wasn’t overly fancy but it was a ‘party’ of some sort.

I also have a habit of over-dressing for things (well personally I don’t think you can really over-dress as it’s better to be over-dressed then under-dressed), so I tried to keep it casual. This is what I came up with.

I thought I should pull out the clog-style platform pumps because they are just awesome! I teamed these with my cropped caramel pants, vintage red silk shirt (my Mum’s from the 80’s. I love that my Mum kept all her old clothes!), and my uber-cute navy and white stripped cardi with frill sleeves. I’m also wearing a brown snakeskin-esque belt, which I love.

What do you think?

Perfect combo for a dinner party?

Outfit Today: Boots and Blazer Take 2

So today I wore my classic boots and blazer combo. If you read my blog you may think this is the same outfit as last week, but its NOT!

There is one major key difference, the blazer. The blazer I wore today is a really get piece in my blazer collection. It used to be my mum’s in the 80’s and now it is mine. It’s a really great wool blend and has amazing shoulder pads (I know and know I’m not drunk or high, I really like shoulder pads sometimes)!

I also love that this blazer is oversized. It’s the perfect cold day, jeans and boots combo (so perfect for a day like today).

So what do you think?

Love an oversized blazer?

Think I should send my shoulder pads back to the 80’s?

Shoes: What I'm wearing today

Today was a work day (not a uni day), so I was back strutting my stuff in some awesome heels! Well I wasn’t so much strutting because I did a 10km run yesterday and my legs are killing me. You might also question why I was wearing heels if my legs were sore and the answer to that is, life is too short to wear sensible shoes!

I really love these shoes, because they are a great nude heel with a twist. Also they are really high and comfortable. What more could you want in a shoe?!
I teamed my funky nude heels with my smoky brown woolen wide-legged pants, white tee (that’s right WHITE not Black) and Black Blazer (I really had to get Black in there somewhere). I also pulled my out my amazing Swarovski crystal cross.

I got this when I was in Europe a few years ago and it’s a bit of a show-stopper.
What do you think?
Love the shoes?

Rainbow!

I saw this amazing Rainbow this morning at the station and I just had to take a picture of it!

Pretty huh!

It really made my morning.

Shoes: What I’m wearing today

Today was a uni day. As such I thought I would be great day to pull out the old Chuck Taylor All Stars.

I know these aren’t the glamorous heels or wedges I’ve been pulling out, but they are amazing comfortable and, well, they just look kinda kool (that’s right I spell my Cool with a K).

These are some happy train snaps of my Chuck Taylors.

I also thought I’d pull out one of my favorite rings, my gold snake ring.  I LOVE this ring! My parents bought it for me for X-Mas 2 years ago and I wear it to death.

What do you think of my shoes today? Do you have a pair of really great kicks that you love to wear?

Like my snake ring?

Shoes: What I'm Wearing Today

So one of my life mantras is ‘life is too short to wear sensible shoes’ (hence the name of my blog). However I have kind of taken this to the next level, by pretty much buying as many pairs of shoes as I possibly can. I really do love shoes!
I have featured the odd shoe every now and then in my blogs, but I think I have been under-representing shoes considering my passion for them.
As such I tried to correct this last week (see some posts HERE and HERE and HERE), and I think it’s going to become a regular update (but we shall see).
So here are the fabulous shoes I’m wearing today! YAY!

Aren’t they amazing! My outfit today is really all about the shoe. I’m wearing skinny oil-slick black jeans (they are called second skins actually lol), a black tee (shocking I know!) and an army green military style cardigan. So not the most vibrant outfit, UNTIL to see the shoes that is!
I should also add that these lovely little wedges add about 6 inches to my high, so they really do make a statement.
I also thought my awesome Chanel Black Pearl nail polish, which I’m wearing also deserved a mention.

What do you think of my shoes?
Do you agree that life is too short to wear sensible shoes?

QV Gentle Shampoo and Conditioner Review

So a few weeks ago, I was invited to take part in the Beauty Directory’s QV Gentle Shampoo and Conditioner blogger trial. This was my 1st blogger trail so I was pretty excited!

Firstly, I really liked the fact that products were soap and color free. Since I wash my hair every day I really like to make sure that I am using good products for my hair. I have now been using the products for a few weeks now and here are my thoughts on each one…

Gentle Shampoo

I actually really liked the shampoo. Despite the fact that it’s soap free, it does a really good job of washing and lathering up. I also liked the texture because it wasn’t too thick. It also made my hair feel nice.

Gentle Conditioner

I liked the conditioner, but not as much as the shampoo. I have really fine hair (and a lot of hair) and it’s also colored, so I need a really good conditioner otherwise I get knots. I found that this conditioner did an ok job of nourishing my hair, but I did have a few knots. I liked the texture of the conditioner though, because it was ticker and more of a cream. I also noticed that my hair was more hydrated as I had less fly away hairs at the ends. So overall it was a good conditioner.

This Week's Best Dressed

So I haven’t done a best dressed list for a while now, and I was really impressed with some of the lovely ladies on Vogue this week so thought it was time for an update!

First up is Catherine, Dutchess of Cambridge in a stunning Alexander McQueen dress with Jimmy Choo shoes and bag.

Now I have an issue with Kate (or Catherine as she is now to be ‘officially’ dressed) and my issue is that not only is she married to a Prince, but also she has an amazing wardrobe to go with it. Life really isn’t fair.
She has been getting a bit of slack lately because people are saying that she is being really ‘boring’ in terms of her fashion choices, but I think she is doing a great job. Catherine always looks classy, elegant and well put-together. No she isn’t being out there in terms of her couture, but then again she is part of the Royal family so I’m sure she has limitations on what she can and cannot wear.

Next are the lovely Olsen Twins in The Row (their own label).
You know you’ve got a good label when you like wearing your own clothes and the Olsen Twins are really proving this to be true. The Row is a great collection (although a little bit out of my price range…for now anyway) and the Olsen Twins look great in it. Nothing like a little bit of free PR!

Moving on to the lovely Zoe Saldana in a Chloe dress, Valentino shoes and Lanvin clutch.

I love this outfit, because it is so on trend. Nude hues are the flavor of the month at the moment. This is such a great example because it’s such a feminine and pretty ensemble. Zoe really does look amazing. I’m also loving her subtle make-up with a strong berry lip color; one word beautiful (the fact that she is drop dead gorgeous also helps lol).

Next is Maria Sharapova in Alexander McQueen.

Not only does she plan tennis, but she is becoming somewhat of a style icon. Maria looks stunning here. The dress is quite exposing so the fact that she is incredibly fit really shows it off in all its glory. I’m also crushing on the shoes, perfection!

Next up is Clemence Poesy in Chanel Couture.

Chanel! Do I need to say anything else?! Clemence always manages to look stunning and wears couture oh so well. I also love that she always looks natural and elegant. Stunning!

Last but not least is Marie-Amelie Sauve in Balenciaga.

I love this look because it’s so chic! Perfect Paris glamour. LOVE.

What do you think of the best dress this week?

Who is your favourite?

Essie Spring 2011 Collection Part 2

I have finally finished trying out the entire French Affair Collection (finally)! In case you forgot, I have already reviewed half of the collection, Sand Tropez, French Affair and Coat Azure.

And here is my review of the second half.

Week 4: Nice is Nice

I really LOVE this color. It’s such a perfect light pretty shade. Essie describes this color as a lovely whimsical light lavender, and that’s exactly what it is.
So my rating for ‘Nice is nice’ is DELIGHTFUL…or 9.5/10.

Week 5: Topless & Barefoot

This color is really similar to ‘Sand Tropez’ only lighter (hence the implied naked-ness in the name). This is a really lovely nude color that is great when you want that ‘not really wearing nail polish’ look.
So the verdict is PERFECT NUDE! (I know that is 2 words but I thought it was necessary) Or 8.5/10
Week 6: Kisses & Bises

I wasn’t too sure when I first saw this color, it looked like it would be a bit of a nothing color. But it ended up surprising me.
This is a really nice ‘nothing’ color. It’s on the verge of being clear, but there is a bit of an off-white hue and a light pink/purple shimmer.
My rating for Kisses & Bises is SURPRISING or 7/10!

What do you think of the Essie French Affair collection?

Have you tried any of the colors?

Outfit today: Boots and Blazer

The boots are getting a workout this week! I’m wearing them again today.
MY BOOTS! Taken with Instagram
Aren’t they awesome!
Today I’m teaming them with some classic blue skinny jeans, a red stripy shirt and another black blazer (I said I had a few of them)!

Taken with Instagram

I really love this blazer because it has a military-esque feel to it. I also love the stripy detail on the cuffs and in the lining (it’s the same as the cuff since you can’t see!). Plus it was only $21 USD for Forever 21! Shopping in the US really isn’t overrated!
Some said I looked a bit French today. I’m assuming due to the read stripy shirt; it’s very stereotypical French (I also have the same shirt in blue). Maybe I should have looked into a beret!
So, are we feeling the outfit today?

My staple boots!

So who is loving Sydney at the moment?!?! The weather today was horrible. The rain and wind were insane, and by insane I mean INSANE! I had to farewell 2 beloved umbrellas (well not really beloved, but more kept my hair dry), one of which I bought today due to the demise of my other day.
As such I thought it would be a good day to pull out my boots! I love boots and they are great for the rain (I’m not really a gumboot sort of girl, reminds me too much of the country side/farm land).

Me and my boots at uni. Taken with Instagram
My and my boots at Gloria Jeans. Taken with Instagram
Aren’t they awesome!

I really do love these boots. I got them a few years ago and I have to say they would have to be one of the best investments I’ve ever made; I’ve worn them to death. I like that they are knee height because they are the perfect length for tucking in my jeans (note the photo). They also have a classic look to them so they pretty much go with everything.

I teamed these awesome boots with my red jeans (also love these jeans) and a black tee; I know me in a black tee, shocking!

So it turns out wearing happy clothes and shoes does put you in a good mood!

What do you think of my black boots?
Do you think they work well with the red jeans? (Please say yes because I wear this combo a fair bit and I would hate to think I’ve been looking like a loser)

Do you have a staple pair of boots?

Outfit today

So as I mentioned in my previous blog post today, my morning wasn’t very crash hot. For 1 thing I woke up late. Well that’s actually a lie…my alarm clock went off, but I rolled over and fell back asleep for another 40 mins (good thing I always give myself extra time of a morning to mosey around)!
As such I pretty much pulled on the first thing I could get my hands on. I didn’t really think too much about my outfit until I got to work, and I have to say I did pretty good considering I didn’t put much thought into it.
Taken with Instagram in the bathroom at work. Tip: If you do happen to take a photo of yourself in the work bathroom ensure that no one comes in, or if they do act liking you are calling someone or you just look like a freak…
I’m wearing my uber-comfortable boyfriend jeans (because I wore them to uni yesterday and they were the first pair of pants that I could get my hands on) which I got for a steal at Just Jeans. I’m teaming them with a plain black tee (a wardrobe staple of mine and I have about 6 of them) and a vintage blazer (which was my mum’s in like the 80’s). If you know me, you know that I love a good blazer and have about 12 of them, so again was a quick reach into the wardrobe. But doesn’t a blazer just dress up an outfit! It really is a fail-safe! If you don’t own a blazer I highly recommend you get yourself one, in black.

And finally, the cherry on-top, my awesomely awesome Steve Madden clog-style platform pumps!

Taken with Instagram
Taken with Instagram
I LOVE LOVE LOVE these shoes (and not just because I purchased them in New York). They are comfortable, a little bit edgy, high and just put me in a good mood!
Nothing like some power heels to cheer up your day.
I reluctantly ask what you think of my outfit today?
If you hate it, please keep in mind I’ve had a very bad morning and please don’t make me cry at my desk this afternoon.
Nat xoxo

I was having a bad day...

Today looked like it was shaping up to be a pretty crappy day…
One, I slept in. So I had the joy of jumping out of bed and running around like a crazy person in order to make it out of the house of time.
Two, it was raining. Oh joy! Rain pisses me off because your shoes get wet. People tent to lose all sense of propriety when it’s raining: they ‘forget’ how to drive (what the hell is with that?! It’s more dangerous so I’m going to speed and not indicate because that’s going to make things safer!) and the lovely train commuters tend to be more aggressive, which is quite amazing.
And three, a guy pushed me on the train in order to ensure he got the free seat. Yep that’s right. But the funny thing about it was it’s not the 1st time it’s happened either. People are really lovely aren’t they?!
So needless to say I was not in the best mood when I got to work. BUT! Yes there is a but! I opened my e-mails and saw this awesome picture send from Carlin.
This just made me laugh!
And here is the original from the Hangover.
haha love this photo!
Alan is AWESOME! He really is! This guy was the member of his ‘One Man Wolf Pack’, named a random baby (featured in both the doll and real photo version) Carlos, spiked his friends drink’s with Roofies and somehow managed to count cards at Blackjack. And that was just in the 1st movie.
And let’s not forget some of his classic quotes:
“I'm not supposed to be within two hundred feet of a school... or a Chuck E. Cheese.”
“What it Pervert!...He’s getting very close to my shaft!”
“I have a question. You probably get this a lot, but this isn't the real Caesar's Palace, is it?”
“Tigers love pepper, they hate cinnamon”
“I didn’t know they gave out rings at the Holocaust”
And
“No, it's a satchel... Indiana Jones has one”
So my day has picked up! YAY! And if you’re having a bad day, I highly recommend some Hangover viewing to pick you up!

Sarah Jessica Parker in Vogue

So this weekend I have been pretty boring. My time has been spent doing uni assignment and watching Sex And The City (both the TV show and the movies). Although I’ve done the quiz “which sex and the city character are you” and it said that I was Charlotte, there has always been something about Carrie I love. Not so much her masochistic relationship with Mr. Big, but her amazing wardrobe! Man the lady knows how to dress and how to pick an amazing pair of shoes. It’s really all about the shoes and I guess in that respect Carrie and I must be on the same wavelength.

So when I was looking at Vogue dot com (always wanted to type a website out like that!) last night I saw that the lovely Sarah Jessica Parker was there August Cover Girl (and if you don’t know the connection between SJP and Sex And The City you should be shot).

Sarah Jessica Parter in Chanel and Manolo's

SJP in Marc Jacobs

SJP in Oscar de la Renta
After reading the article and checking out a number of pictures of the lovely Ms. Parker, I realized how much of a fashion icon SJP really is. I have always thought of Carrie being the fashion icon, but I think SJP may be even more so then her on-screen character.

SJP in Alexander McQueen
SJP in Chanel Haute Couture
SJP in Oscar de la Renta
SJP in Halston Heritage
SJP in L'Wren Scott
SJP in Valentino
How amazing are these dresses??

The women know how to wear couture! And credit to her for being the former partner of Halston Heritage, which resulted in some amazing couture items (which you can see in SATC2).

Do you love Sarah Jessica Parker too?

Are you a Sex And The City Fan?

Get The Look: Jean Paul Gaultier’s Haute Couture collection make-up look

My 3rd and final make-up look is Jean Paul Gaultier’s Haute Couture collection look.

Nothing about this look is subtle. The black eyeliner and the striking red lips aren’t for the light-hearted, especially when worn together. Normally this might be a bit much, but the eye make-up is purely winged eyeliner at the top and outlined at the bottom with mascara, so the look isn’t too over powering. My eyeliner recommendations for this winged liner look are:

Bobbi Brow's Gel Liner

Shu Uemura's Gel Liner

Now on to the red lips! I really do love a red lip and there are quite a few good options for getting this look. I have included my favorite lipsticks and lipglosses to create this look and they are:

MAC's Ruby Woo

MAC's Russian Red

Lipstick Queen's Big Bang in Energy. This is really a gloss but it's such a great colour and lasts for ages. So if you don't want to wear a lipstick it's a great option.

In my Chanel post I covered off mascara, so if you want to know my mascara picks, pop over there.

Well I hope you like my Haute Couture make-up run-downs! If you didn’t see Chanel or Valentino’s check them out J.

What do you think of Jean Paul Gaulter’s runway make-up look?
Do you like the winged liner and red lip look?
